I’m not normally someone who does New Year’s Resolutions but I guess I’m thinking about this upcoming year from a MT perspective and the goals I would like to accomplish.
This summer will mark 2 years of being a medical transcriptionist and I decided I would take the certified medical transcription (CMT) test. It’s a certification from AHDI and many employers do look for MTs to have that if you would like to move up the ladder. Plus I like challenges.
So I will keep you updated on my studying and of course the test.
So what are your goals as a medical transcriptionist (either if you’re a student, not working or a working MT)?

Congratulations on getting the job doing QA! That does sound a little less stressful. This year, I hope to finish CS and get a job that will turn out to be productive! I am a little nervous that I will be working for pennies to start out with! So, do you do IC work? I have been thinking about doing that but need to gather info on how to do taxes, etc. If you are, do you have any suggestions?
Thanks, Amanda

Thanks Amanda!
It is hard at the beginning when you first graduate, to find a quality job. I would say do your research on companies (for example, via the Career Step Message Board) and make a list of the companies that sound the best for you and your needs. And decide if IC or employee work is best for you. I used to do IC work. I needed to do that for the flexible schedule. But now with my QA position I’m an employee with a set schedule which has also worked out great and I no longer have to worry about taxes.
I really don’t know much about the taxes when you’re an IC. All I know is the company doesn’t take out the taxes so my advice would be to save some of the money you earn to apply to your taxes if you feel it will be a big issue at tax time. I wasn’t an IC for a long time so I don’t have too many suggestions. Sorry about that!
